Transport Consortia of Andalusia

The Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Ministry of Development and Housing, has created a public transport system with the goal of ensuring the mobility of Andalusian citizens through a modern, multimodal, safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly transport network.

One of the fundamental pillars of this system is metropolitan public transport. Geographically, it is based on the nine major urban agglomerations of Andalusia: Seville, Malaga, Granada, Bay of Cadiz, Campo de Gibraltar, Huelva, Almeria, Cordoba, and Jaen. These areas account for over five million residents and generate almost 70% of the GDP. From a regulatory perspective, metropolitan transport in Andalusia is governed by Law 2/2003, dated May 12, on the Organization of Urban and Metropolitan Transport.

Transport Consortia of Andalusia: Network Operation

The public entities assigned the responsibilities of organizing and coordinating the public transport network in the various metropolitan areas of Andalusia are the Metropolitan Transport Consortia. Consortia for the areas of Seville, Bay of Cadiz, Granada, Malaga, Campo de Gibraltar, Almeria, Jaen, Cordoba, and Costa de Huelva have been established to date.

The Transport Consortia of Andalusia, promoted by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, aim for the consortia to operate as a network to optimize their management and the provision of metropolitan transport services in their respective areas.

To this end, they have signed a collaboration protocol setting out the foundations and method for network operation, the management agreement as a tool for administrative interaction between the Consortia, and the promotion and management of common interest projects.
